Using Homeless People to Advertise

Posted on April 12th, 2008 by Michael Coombe

Most people use traditional methods when it comes to advertising. If you were going to try and get more of an online presence, you might try google’s adwords or buying banner space on a site relatively similar to yours. If you were using traditional methods offline you might create some posters to put up in “hotspots” in your local area as well as contacting newspapers, magazines and perhaps even radio stations. If all those sound too expensive or even too mundane. I’ve come up with an alternative.

What you will require is some printed t-shirts (at around 5$ a piece-Keep costs down!). Make sure your website/company is clearly printed on the front and you can even have another message on the back if you wish. I think you can see where this is going. Go to the biggest city in your vicinity and offer free t-shirts to the homeless, I’m pretty sure they will not turn you down and with all the people they approach for money then it should be quite effective. Your name may then be associated with helping the less unfortunate as well which is always a good thing. You could even put a slogan on the back of the t-shirt ” Doing out bit for the community” or something a long those lines to really hammer home the point or even to humor.

Good idea? What do you think?

Conspiracy: trying to derail China’s unstoppable trade growth

Posted on August 6th, 2007 by Michael Coombe

A week or so ago around 41 infected pigeons were incinerated by the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine of China (GAQSIQ… Quite a mouthful). These particular pigeons were racing pigeons but are also a highly popular delicacy in the country. These specific pigeons were actually carrying a vicious disease called Parrot Fever. Parrot fever has the potential to infect both humans and other birds.

Yum… Pigeons

The pigeons which actually arrived in Beijing on the 21st June had completely incorrect documentation. The quarantine information, the numbers on the birds provided was completely wrong. Further more they had to correctly identify the birds and provide satisfactory documentation to allow the birds to move within the country. After further investigation it became clear all birds carried the malicious virus. They were killed shortly after.

Now, how did this happen considering the US’s stringent rules on animal exporting/importing? I think they let one slide to derail the strong US-China poultry relationship. The US is one of China’s biggest suppliers of poultry, importing approximately 1.3 million birds each year. Press make out as if this was just a “slip” a mere coincidence. I say otherwise, I say the US trading officials knew about the birds but allowed them to be exported anyway. Knowing they would be detected by the QAQSIQ this would make the Chinese importers more suspicious about importing from the US ultimately reducing an important part of there food trade, crippling a previously strong relationship between the two countries. Thus reducing trade between the countries further to try to stunt China’s growth of becoming

That’s my whacky little theory take what you want from it.. Let me know what you think, I’m interested to know.
